Accessibility Policies & Multi-Year Accessibility Plan

Accessibility Plan and Policies for Yummy Market

The accessibility plan, first developed in 2015, underwent updates in 2017 and again in 2023. Its primary purpose is to better opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

Statement of Commitment

We are committed and fully support AODA. We are committed to treating all people, be it customers or employees, in a way that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence. We believe in integration and equal opportunity. We are committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities in a timely manner, and will do so by removing existing barriers to accessibility and by preventing the re-appearance of such barriers and the creation of new ones, by meeting accessibility requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 including Ontario Regulation 429/7 Accessibility Standards for Customer Service.

Accessible Emergency Information

Yummy Market is committed to providing its customers with publicly available emergency information in an accessible way upon request. We are also ready to provide employees with disabilities with individualized emergency response information when need arises.

Training

Yummy Market has provided training to current store employees and other staff members outlining Ontario’s accessibility laws for people with disabilities and on the Human Rights Code as it relates to people with disabilities. Such training was completed by September, 2023. Further training for new employees continues on an ongoing basis. It will be tailored to the duties of employees in each service department. Subsequently, accessibility training will be done on an on-going basis. The fact of accessibility training is routinely recorded in the respective employee’s HR file.

Kiosks

Yummy Market is a full-service retail business. The company’s goal is to provide customers with unmatched shopping experience. As a result, Yummy Market’s owners do not have plans to procure and install self-service kiosks. Therefore, this section of the Accessibility Plan is not applicable to Yummy Market’s situation.

Should the need for self-service stations or kiosks arise in the future, the Accessibility Plan will be amended to reflect that need.

Employment

Yummy Market is committed to fair and accessible employment practices.

Yummy Market will accommodate people with disabilities during the recruitment, assessment and hiring processes, as well as during employment.

Yummy Market has reviewed its current recruitment policies, job descriptions, processes and communications and has amended them as necessary to reflect the integrated accessibility standards. A reference to Yummy Market’s accessibility policies accompanies each job posting created in various media types.

Yummy Market has revised as required individual accommodation plans and return-to-work policies for qualified employees who were absent due to a disability.

Yummy Market is in the process of reviewing performance management and redeployment processes and will amend them as required to ensure that the accessibility needs of employees with disabilities are taken into account where possible.

Yummy Market will continue to take the necessary steps to identify, prevent and remove barriers impacting the accessibility of employment.

 Information and Communications

Yummy Market is committed to meeting the communication needs of people with disabilities.

Yummy Market has updated its website and content to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, Level A and Level AA. Completed as of January 2021.

Yummy Market has taken the following steps to ensure existing feedback processes are accessible to people with disabilities upon request: assess current forms of company communication, consider accessibility requirements when creating new forms of communication, make appropriate changes and accommodations to ensure customers and employees are aware of how to participate in providing and receiving a response to feedback. These steps were completed as of September 2023.

Yummy Market has taken the following steps to ensure all publicly available information is made accessible upon request. We have assessed all forms of information provided to the public and we will determine if there is anything that would make it difficult for someone with a disability to read, see, hear or understand and will establish processes for ensuring alternate formats are available in a timely manner.

 Workplace Emergency Response Information

Yummy Market will provide individualized workplace emergency response information to employees who have a disability, if the disability is such that the individualized information is necessary, and if Yummy Market is made aware of the employee’s need for accommodation due to his/her disability. Yummy Market will provide this information as soon as practicable after becoming aware of the employee’s need for accommodation.

Where the employee requires assistance, Yummy Market will, with the consent of the employee, provide the workplace emergency response information. This information will be provided by the person designated by Yummy Market to provide such assistance. This person will be instructed to treat this information with maximum confidentiality and tact.

Yummy Market will specifically review the individualized workplace emergency response information developed for each particular employee when the employee moves to a different location within the organization, and when general emergency response policies are reviewed.

Documented Individual Accommodation Plans

Yummy Market will maintain a written process for the development of documented individual accommodation plans for employees with disabilities. If requested, information regarding accessible formats and communication supports provided will be included in individual accommodation plans.

In addition, the accommodation plans will include individualized workplace emergency response information (where required), and will identify any other accommodation that is to be provided.

Design of Public Spaces

Yummy Market is committed to integrating accessibility features and criteria when procuring or redesigning any of our owned or leased spaces. Should significant renovations at our Maple and North York stores occur, our management will align with the Accessibility Standards for the Design of Public Spaces. This will encompass areas like store aisles, service counters, check-out lanes, waiting zones, and washrooms. We will establish protocols to minimize service disruptions in these accessible areas. In the event of a service disruption, we will notify the public of the service disruption and alternatives available.

Multi-Year Accessibility Plan Updates

Yummy Market Inc. will make every effort to maintain its multi-year accessibility plan compliant. The plan will be reviewed and updated at least once every five years. The plan itself and its updates will be located on a separate web page – https://yummymarket.com/accessibility/. This plan indicates our organization’s commitment to removing accessibility barriers and preventing the creation of new ones. We will make the plan and all its updates available to the public and provide it in an accessible format when requested.
